Frequently Asked Questions

I want to surrender my pet. What should I do?

Please call our Wilmington location at (302) 571-0111 to set up an appointment. The pet will be assessed by our medical team before the animal is able to be surrendered. Surrender is subject to space availability in our shelter, and only occurs at our Wilmington location. We cannot guarantee in advance that we will be able to accept any animal.

Can my pet receive vaccinations at DHA?

Our Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington locations hold low-cost vaccination clinics on set dates. Additionally, our One Health free clinic is held monthly at the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center in Wilmington, and available to those who are income qualified and current clients of Henrietta Johnson. Click here for dates and times for all public clinics. Otherwise, we do not offer public vaccinations at either of our locations.

Does DHA accept/pick up stray animals?

DHA does not accept or pick up stray animals. We recommend calling Delaware Animal Services at (302) 255-4646 for more information.

Can my pet be spayed/neutered at DHA?

DHA does not offer public spay/neuter services at this time, but we hope to in the future.
