With a few days remaining in January, we don’t want to miss the opportunity to still say Happy New Year, but more importantly to say thank you for helping us celebrate 60 years of service during 2017; we are truly thankful for everyone’s help and support.

Haan, the dog, and Naomi, the cat got adopted earlier in the year, and both were from our days in the old shelter! Including those two adoptions, we found homes for 1,571 animals (817 dogs and 754 cats)! In addition, we did a total of 1793 spay/neuter surgeries for our animals and the public’s, along with providing countless bags of free pet food to hundreds of individuals in-need.

In April, we celebrated 60 years with our Diamond Anniversary Gala at Vicmead! We created a new level of support, Diamond Paws Circle, for individuals who gave $1,957 or more (our founding year), and we are thrilled to have 61 inaugural members! Special thanks to the following individuals/families who collectively helped raise more than $120,000.00 between two matching gift campaigns: Tatiana & Gerret Copeland, Linda & Tony Bariglio, Beverly L. Bove, Esq., Jane & Wayne Carey, Jeremy Eicher & Elizabeth Bond, Nick & Rory Fanandakis, Marilyn & Nathan Hayward, Tyler Lassen, Frank and Sharon Palermo, and Holly J. Warren & Donald L. Bowman II.

On June 25th, our actual founding date, we held a 60th Celebration Picnic onsite, complete with vendors, moon bounces, fun and games, along with two hundred of our friends for life and many of their furry friends.

Not only did we turn 60, but like many who reach a milestone, we bought a place at the beach. On July 27th, we opened our Rehoboth Beach Adoption Center in the Midway Shopping Center, and have already adopted more than 100 animals! Please stop by and see our quaint new home, with cats and dogs roaming freely (separated by a glass partition) and adoption meetings that take place at a dining room table.

On October 7th, we kicked off a new program called DHA One Health Delaware, which is a free veterinary and human health clinic that will occur once a month at Henrietta Johnson Medical Center for income-qualified participants. Special thanks to our Board of Directors for spearheading this great program, but especially to two of our Board Members, Drs. Kristin Jankowski and Carla Andrews.

The next day, 10,000 rubber ducks raced their way across the Brandywine Town Center Fountain for our 4th Annual Rubber Duck Race. Special thanks to our Portfolio of Friends and all of our Duck Adopters and winners!
